First-time car buyer in Houston? Start here.

No credit, thin credit, never had a car loan. That's normal. I help first-time buyers in Tomball and all over Houston get approved on a new or used Ford or Hyundai, without the runaround.

You don't need perfect credit to buy your first car

Most first-time buyers have little or no credit history. Lenders know that, which is why Ford and Hyundai both have programs built for people who have never financed a vehicle before.

What lenders look at instead: steady income, how long you've been at your job, how long you've lived at your address, and your down payment. If those line up, a first car is very doable.

Ford Credit First-Time Buyer program

Ford Credit's First-Time Buyer program is for buyers with no prior auto credit. Per Ford, it includes $750 Bonus Cash on eligible new Fords financed through Ford Credit, financing up to $50,000, and terms up to 84 months.

Ford lists these basics: no prior auto credit and no bad credit history, at least 6 months at your current full-time job, a $750 or larger down payment, and a 620 or higher FICO score. Ford says the current version runs through December 31, 2026, and terms can change, so I'll confirm what's live when we talk.

Popular first Fords: Maverick, Ranger, Escape, Bronco Sport and the F-150.

Hyundai first-time buyer financing

Hyundai Motor Finance also works with first-time buyers. If you have a FICO score, you can get standard and special offers, with retail terms up to 75 months. If you have no FICO score at all, it's usually a purchase (not a lease) with about 10% down and terms up to 72 months.

Popular first Hyundais: Elantra, Kona, Venue and Tucson. Every new Hyundai comes with Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, which is a big deal on a first car.

What to bring

Driver's license, two recent pay stubs (or an offer letter if you just started), a utility bill or lease showing your address, and proof of insurance before you drive off. A trade-in title if you have one.

Common questions

Can I buy a car with no credit in Houston?

Yes. Ford Credit and Hyundai Motor Finance both have first-time buyer options for people with no auto credit history. Steady income, time on the job and a down payment matter most.

How much do I need down as a first-time buyer?

Ford's First-Time Buyer program lists a $750 minimum. Hyundai usually asks for about 10% down if you have no FICO score. More down means a lower payment.

What credit score do I need for the Ford first-time buyer program?

Ford lists a 620 minimum FICO score for its First-Time Buyer program, plus no prior auto credit and no bad credit history.

Does sending the form check my credit?

No. The form just tells me how to reach you. Nothing runs on your credit until you say so.

Do you help first-time buyers outside Houston?

Yes. I'm based in Tomball and work with buyers across greater Houston and in other states.
